Privacy policy

Dilemmate works without an account. We keep what you answer so we can show you your type, your friends and how the world splits, and we try to keep everything else to a minimum. This page explains what we collect, who can see it, and how to delete it.

Who we are

Dilemmate is run by an independent developer in Türkiye. Questions and requests about your data go to hello@dilemmate.com.

What we collect

When you use the site

  • A random visitor ID, stored in a cookie (anon_id) for up to a year. It ties your answers to this browser. It contains nothing about you.
  • Your answers to the 20-dilemma test and to daily dilemmas, the type they add up to, and when you answered.
  • Your country, which our host works out from your IP address. We store the country, not the address.
  • Your time zone, stored in a cookie (tz), so the daily dilemma changes at your midnight.
  • A scrambled form of your IP address (a keyed hash), kept for one day to stop automated abuse such as mass voting. It can't be turned back into your address.

Only if you choose to

  • A nickname and an emoji avatar, and the names of groups you create.
  • Your email address, if you sign in to keep your history across devices. We use it only to send you sign-in codes.
  • A notification address from your browser, plus your time zone and chosen hour, if you turn on daily reminders. We use it only to send those reminders and a weekly summary.

Usage statistics

We count page views and actions such as finishing the test or sharing a result, to see what works. This runs in a mode that sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, so it can't recognize you from one day to the next. We don't record your screen or your clicks.

We don't sell your data, show you ads based on it, or use it to train AI models.

Who can see what

  • Your result page shows your type and five axes to anyone you send the link to. Your individual answers stay hidden from them.
  • When you compare with a friend, only the two of you see where your answers match and differ, and each other's answer to the day's dilemma. Anyone else with the link sees the percentage and your types.
  • Your nickname and avatar are shown only to people you're connected with: someone you compared with, members of your groups, and the owner of a guessing game you played. Never in link previews.
  • In a group, members see each other's nicknames, types, how alike they are, and their answer to the day's dilemma.
  • In a guessing game, players see the answers they guess as they play; the owner sees each player's nickname and score.
  • Public statistics (how countries and types split) only include groups of 50 people or more, so no one can be singled out.
  • Your email address is never shown to anyone.

Services we use

These companies process data on our behalf, only to run the site:

  • Vercel hosts the site and checks requests for bots.
  • Neon stores the database and handles sign-in codes, in the United States.
  • PostHog provides the usage statistics described above, in the United States.
  • Your browser's push service (from Google, Apple or Mozilla) delivers reminders if you turn them on.

Because these services are in the United States, your data is stored and processed there.

Why we use it

We use your answers and the technical data above because the site can't work without them and to keep it safe from abuse (our legitimate interest). We use your email address and notification address because you asked us to (your consent), and you can withdraw that at any time.

How long we keep it

  • Scrambled IP addresses: one day.
  • Reminder settings: until you turn reminders off, or your browser stops accepting them.
  • Everything else: as long as the site runs, unless you ask us to delete it.

Your choices and rights

  • Turn off reminders on your page. We delete the notification address straight away.
  • Sign out on your page. This browser gets a new, empty visitor ID.
  • Ask for a copy, a correction or deletion of your data by writing to hello@dilemmate.com. Include a link to your result or the email you signed in with, so we can find it. We reply within 30 days.
  • Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU or KVKK in Türkiye), you may also object to how we use your data or complain to your data protection authority.

Children

Dilemmate is for people aged 13 and over. If you live somewhere that sets a higher age for using online services without a parent's permission, that age applies to you. If you believe a younger child has used the site, write to us and we'll delete their data.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For important changes, we'll also say so on the site.
